  • Texans' Andrew Beck: Dealing with calf strain

Beck missed Thursday's practice because of a calf strain, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

This is expected to be a short-term issue for Beck. The 28-year-old fullback is looking to hold off Troy Hairston (back) for the starting gig in 2024. Through 15 games last season, Beck rushed five times for three yards and a score and caught 11 of 13 targets for 55 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded 94 yards and a touchdown as a kick returner.

  • Texans' Blake Fisher: Inks rookie deal

Fisher signed his four-year, $6.595 million rookie contract with the Texans on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The second-round offensive tackle is projected as a backup in 2024 because Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard are under contract. Tunsil and Howard missed a combined 13 games in 2023, so Fisher will be a valuable addition to the team should such poor injury fate strike again.

  • Texans' Tim Boyle: Back at practice

Boyle returned to practice Thursday after receiving stitches on his finger last week, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Boyle missed just over a week of OTAs while recovering from this injury. The 29-year-old quarterback is vying for a spot on the 53-man roster as a backup to C.J. Stroud, but he faces a tough test with Davis Mills and Case Keenum also on the roster.

  • Texans' Marcus Haynes: Reverts to IR

Haynes (quadriceps) reverted to the Texans' injured reserve list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Haynes was waived by Houston with an injury designation Tuesday, and he subsequently reverted to IR after clearing waivers. Per Wilson, Haynes and the Texans are working on an injury settlement.

  • Texans' Nico Collins: Inks three-year extension

Collins agreed to terms Tuesday on a three-year, $72.75 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Collins is coming off a breakout 2023 season in which he piled up a 80-1,297-8 receiving line on 109 targets (15 games), and even with Stefon Diggs in town on a one-year deal, Collins represents the future for Houston's wide receiver corps, as does second-year pro Tank Dell. While the addition of Diggs crowds the Texans' target distribution, as does the presence of capable pass-catching options like Joe Mixon in the backfield and tight end Dalton Schultz, this significant monetary commitment to Collins provides a bit of extra incentive for offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik to allow Collins and C.J. Stroud to feature the chemistry they demonstrated last season. If Stroud and the Texans can build off 2023 and hit the ground running, Collins should find himself as a frontman in one of the league's elite passing offenses.

  • Texans' Kenyon Green: Participating in OTAs

Green (shoulder) is a full participant at the Texans' OTAs, Coty Davis of SI.com reports.

Green's 2023 season came to a premature end after a shoulder injury landed him on injured reserve during training camp. Prior to that, he started 14 of 15 games as a rookie. All in all, he allowed 47 pressures, 31 hurries, 12 quarterback hits and five sacks at left guard. The Texas A&M product is expected to compete for the chance to reclaim his role as one of Houston's starting offensive linemen.
