Profar started in each of the Padres' first 71 games of the season, but he'll hit the bench for the first time after he was forced out of Tuesday's 4-3 win in the eighth inning due to a sore left knee. Manager Mike Shildt disclosed after the contest that Profar has been battling patellar tendinitis in the knee for years, but the 31-year-old aggravated the injury on a swing during his eighth-inning at-bat. Though Shildt downplayed the knee issue, the skipper admitted that he was unsure if Profar -- who leads the National League with a .424 on-base percentage -- would require imaging on the knee, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Jose Azocar will cover left field Wednesday in place of Profar, whose status will presumably be updated following Thursday's team off day.

  Manager Mike Shildt said after Tuesday's game versus Oakland that Profar was removed due to left knee soreness, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Profar's left leg gave out on him after he swung and missed at a pitch in the seventh inning, but it appears he escaped the incident without any significant damage. Shildt also noted that Profar has been dealing with problems in his knee for a while and is being viewed as day-to-day going forward. Should the 31-year-old outfielder have to sit out a game or two, David Peralta would likely be the next man up to serve as San Diego's left fielder.

• Padres' Jurickson Profar: Exits with leg injury

  Profar was removed from Tuesday's game against Oakland after suffering an apparent leg injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Profar's left leg buckled after he took a swing at a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning. He was immediately taken out of the game by trainers and will presumably undergo testing in the clubhouse. More information on his status should be available after the game.

  Profar went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. Profar took Tommy Henry deep in the third inning for his second home run over his last three games. Since May 28, the switch hitter has racked up five multi-hit performances while slashing .349/.431/.605 with three homers, 11 RBI, six runs and a 6:9 BB:K in 50 plate appearances. The 31-year-old's .325 average currently ranks second in baseball, while his .302 xBA ranks 11th among qualified batters.
